PS MEETING

KENYA REAFFIRMED ITS COMMITMENT TO FAIR AND SAFE WORKPLACES ACROSS AFRICA

Kisumu played host to a vibrant gathering as Kenya welcomed delegates from across the continent for the African Regional Labour Administration Centre (ARLAC) Working Parties meeting. Held at the Imperial Sarova Hotel, the four-day forum brought together labour leaders and experts to deliberate on how African workplaces could be made more fair, safe, and productive for millions of workers.

Labour and Skills Development Principal Secretary, Shadrack Mwadime, officially opened the session, noting that this was the fourth time in five years that Kenya had hosted ARLAC meetings—underscoring the country’s strong and consistent commitment to advancing regional labour cooperation. “These policies are not just administrative documents, but blueprints for more equitable and safe workplaces for millions of Africans,” he affirmed, calling for solidarity in shaping practical and sustainable solutions.

The meeting tackled critical issues ranging from staff development and anti-corruption measures to strengthening internship opportunities and combating workplace harassment. These discussions were not abstract policy matters—they directly affected the daily realities of ordinary workers and their families across the continent.

Beyond the sessions, delegates also experienced the warmth of Kisumu’s culture, hospitality, and natural beauty, reminding participants that work and community remain inseparable. As Kenya continued to honour its pledges on the continental stage, the message remained clear: stronger labour institutions build stronger families, stronger communities, and ultimately, a stronger Africa.
